“The Flaneur” – BA Design 2021

The Flaneur embodies the art of moving through the world with curiosity and ease, a woman who wanders without destination, finding beauty in the in-between moments. She strolls through the city’s rhythm, both part of the hum and somehow apart from it, discovering wonder in what others might pass by. The flâneuse, once an unseen figure in a pastime reserved for men, reclaims the freedom to roam, to look, to exist within the city as both observer and spectacle. Her purpose is the pleasure of observation, of being, of becoming.

This three-piece ensemble, shacket, bandeau, and wide-leg pant, reflects that harmony between freedom and refinement. The floral appliqué on the set is crafted entirely from recycled denim, which has been hand-dyed in soft gradients of pink, capturing the shifting hues of light as the day unfolds. Each flower motif has been individually cut and hand-sewn, transforming the fabric into a garden of motion and texture, a labor of patience and care that mirrors the mindfulness of wandering itself.

The Flaneur moves through the world as both creator and witness, finding bliss in the simple act of movement, and beauty in the fleeting, overlooked moments that make up a life.
